About us
Quernstone Bakery was founded by Egoitz and Esme in 2021, born out of their shared passion for food sovereignty, traditional crafts and producing honest food to feed local communities.
After years baking in Spain and abroad, Egoitz landed on Dartmoor to find it was his second home. Passionate about traditional bread making methods and their meaning for rural communities, his dream has always been to bake wholesome bread that looks after both the land and it’s people.
Esme grew up on Dartmoor and soon found her calling was to be outside, growing food and taking care of the soil. A journey that led her, across different cultures to learn about soil health, organic growing and seed saving methods. Whenever she is not helping out with baking, Esme spends her time growing organic vegetables on a beautiful hillside in Devon!
Quernstone Bakery draws inspiration from heritage baking, Dartmoor’s landscape and last but not least, people, that in one way or another have shaped our craft. Here is a list of organisations and people that bring inspiration to us.
